FAQs

  • What is Klarna?
Klarna offers giffgaff members an easier way to buy a phone, with flexible loan options.
  • How do I use Klarna to buy a phone with giffgaff?

The first time you shop with Klarna you’ll be asked to apply for a Klarna Account. If you're approved, Klarna will create an account for you and your order will be placed.

Once your account is up and running, make sure you have a direct debit mandate set up with Klarna and Autopay is turned on in the Klarna app. Without this Klarna won't be able to take payments.

Once you're logged in to the Klarna app, follow these steps:

    1. Go to “My Klarna”
    2. Press on “Payment Methods”
    3. Add your bank details
    4. Scroll down and press on Enroll now
    5. Press Ok
    6. Scroll down and toggle Autopay on
  • Do I need to be 18?
Yes. Klarna is only available to people aged 18 or over and is an online exclusive payment method.
  • Is Klarna safe?

Your security and online safety is important to us. And we wouldn’t partner with Klarna if we thought it wasn’t a safe option.

Klarna uses transaction monitoring, transaction verification, and has a dedicated anti-fraud team.

  • Can Klarna affect my credit score?

The short answer? Yes it can.

The longer explanation: giffgaff currently uses Klarna’s long-term payment plans (6-36 months). This requires a full credit check, which can affect your credit score if you're declined or miss a payment.

We encourage all our customers to spend responsibly and think carefully before taking out any loans.

  • Does Klarna do a hard credit check?
Yes. Similar to all traditional finance providers, any giffgaff members interested in a long-term Klarna payment plan will require a hard credit check.
  • What is a hard credit check?

A full credit check, often referred to as a hard credit check, will review your previous credit history.

Klarna will conduct an affordability assessment, review your age (must be 18+) and several other factors. They’ll use this information to decide whether or not you are eligible. A hard credit check can influence your credit rating.

There will be a record of the search on the member’s credit file with the CRA. You must complete, be approved for, and sign a regulated credit agreement.

Members will be advised of the implications of non-payment prior to application. If a member fails to pay on-time for this, the credit reference agencies are informed which may have an impact on their credit score.

We encourage all our members to spend responsibly and think carefully before taking out any loans.

  • How do I manage my Klarna Account?
