What do you want more of in 2025?

The start of a new year often allows us to reflect on what we do and don’t want from the year ahead. So for January, we polled the nation to see what we all want a bit more of this year for a great 2025.

The UK has spoken

Our poll of 2,000 adults across the UK revealed the top 50 actions and experiences we Brits want to have. Receiving good news is at the top of the list (48%), while others want to make more time for exercise (29%), hobbies (27%), and creativity (17%).

Many of us want to be on the receiving end of more hugs from loved ones (29%), meaningful conversations (17%) and thoughtful, unexpected text messages (16%). Isn’t that lovely?

When it comes to finances, 29% are keen to find opportunities to save more on shopping and bills, while 16% would like to see more generosity from businesses, such as discounts and freebies.

Our CEO, Ash, said: “It’s clear people want to see and do more this year, and actively make time for themselves and those close to them. Whether it’s 10 minutes a day dedicated to a hobby, or spontaneous calls with friends or family – these little acts can make a big difference.

“Personal finance is high on the agenda, with almost a third wishing for no surprise bills this year - this is something we hope to help people avoid, with our no-mid contract price rises. We’re proud to also offer our giffgaff members the freedom to flex the cost of their data allowance up and down each month to suit their budget.”

A surprise cuppa increases our mood in minutes

86% think it’s important to make time for the things which have a positive impact on their wellbeing and in turn will make them feel happy (62%) and connected (32%).

In terms of acts of kindness from others, 38% are in a good mood for mere minutes after being made a cup of tea, but an unexpected gift or flowers results in days of positivity (31%).

And 85% admitted that if someone has done something for them, they’re more likely to do the same in return.

What’s holding us back?

The research also found, to make time to tick stuff off, 32% plan to set small goals and targets while 31% aim to book stuff in advance, such as catch-ups with friends and family.

People would prefer to do more of the things they want to do (37%) this year, than those they need to do (18%).

Despite hoping to put aside an hour and 45 minutes a week to focus on such activities and goals, 43% say a lack of time is the top barrier.

Decreased motivation (36%), being stuck in a rut of a routine (34%) and a lack of confidence (26%) were also hurdles. Do you want to try and fit in more of the good stuff?

Check out our tool that’ll help you to schedule some of things we all want to get more of this year.
