giffgaff partners with Doro to donate 500 phones
2 minute read
Phones have become vital during the covid-19 pandemic. For some, it’s the only way of staying connected with the outside world. So, giffgaff and Doro have come together to support some of those affected by the current situation, by providing them with Doro phones.
Why did we choose Doro?
Doro has been the perfect partner. It is the leader in the telecommunications space for providing solutions for vulnerable members of society. Doro’s phones are simple to use, with connectivity for email and Internet. The phones also feature a special ‘Assistance’ button, which connects users to responders at the Doro Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), for emergency help and quick access to 999 call handlers. In collaboration with Doro, we’ve distributed 500 Doro handsets with 3 months free access to the ARC service.
Through Neighbourly, we’re able to give these phones to those who really need them at this time, with 3 months of giffgaff calls, texts and data thrown in.
Neighbourly has helped us distribute these handsets to charities, local communities and care homes. These charities help by not only providing the phones, but also setting them up.
Some of the charities supported are: Age UK, Fish Neighbourhood care, Trafford veterans, MHA South and West Birmingham live at home scheme, Zest for life conversation and laughter (Malvern), John Storer Charnwood (Loughborough), Tendring Eldercare(Edinburgh), and many more.
The charities and those they support have been delighted since receiving these phones. Here are some stories and lots of smiling faces from different parts of the country.
Moorland Star
Moorland Star isa charity in Cardiff who has received 30 phones from giffgaff and Doro. They normally run a lunch club for older people aged 65 - 101, but have diversified their operations during the covid pandemic to deliver 120 hot lunches per week. The phones have been given to their users who have become more isolated during the crisis, to keep in contact with their friends, families as well as those at the centre.
Erskine Edinburgh Home
Erskine Edinburgh Home is a charity caring for elderly and disabled veterans in their residential home. They provide long term nursing care to veterans, their spouses and widows under the charity Erskine Hospital, and have received 10 Doro phones.
