certified goodness

Why is giffgaff a B Corp?

It’s never been more important for businesses to take responsibility and make a positive impact. We’ve always been motivated by doing the right thing. That’s how we started, back in 2009, forging a better way to do mobile.

Joining B Corp is a way to certify our goodness. It’s proof that we care about our customers, our colleagues, our community and the environment, and how we run our business.

B Corp also gives us clear targets on what we need to work towards to get even more goodness into giffgaff.

What’s in it for members?

You still get all the best things you love about giffgaff. And now you know that you’ve chosen a business that is genuinely, officially doing good. And we make it easy for you to do good too:

We have always worked for and with our members, and we simply wouldn’t be a B Corp without you.

How do we prove our goodness?

B Corp tested us on five main areas: how we treat our customers, our colleagues, our community and the environment, and how we run our business.

Our score is: 85.8

They grilled us - really grilled us - in all those areas and we’re so proud of our score of 85.8. You need 80 points to be certified, so it’s a strong start.

We’ve baked sustainability into the DNA of giffgaff. We’ve legally committed ourselves to consider our impact on people and the planet when we do business.

Good for our members

Our members can choose refurbished, to save money and be more sustainable.

Check your drawers

Did you know that the UK has 55 million unused phones sitting in drawers?

Get any old phones out of your drawers and back into the world. This will help us create a circular economy for phones, reduce waste and save people money. Find out how much you can get for your old phone at giffgaffrecycle. It’ll be reused or ethically recycled.

Good for our community

Together with our members, anything is possible. And co-creating with them is at our core. It’s our mission to identify and support causes that really matter and bring communities together.

We’ve totalled £1,097,557.32 in charity donations since 2010.

Good for our environment

We’re striving for a better future. One that’s sustainable above all else. Improving our environmental performance is key. And we know it’s something our smart, savvy and progressive members care about too.

Recycling and reducing waste

  • Our SIMS are made from recycled plastic material.
  • They are either recycled polystyrene (rPS) or recycled ABS plastic (rABS).
  • Both have a mobius category 7 rating.

Want to recycle your old SIM?

We love that. Learn more about how to safely recycle your phones and SIM cards with us.

Our recyclable packaging

We’ve made our

  • SIM packaging from 100% FSC accredited MIX paper, a mix of recycled pulp and sustainable forests.
  • Refurbished phone packaging from 100% FSC accredited MIX cardboard, a mix of sustainably sourced and recycled material.

They’re both ‘kerbside recyclable’, so just chuck it in with your normal paper recycling.

We dispatch our phones with DPD. Their delivery bags are made from LDPE Polythene, 80% of which is reclaimed material. This is also kerbside recyclable, so just bung it in with your plastic bag recycling.

We also use HP Indigo printing which is helping us to reduce our wastage to nearly zero. Compared to the traditional printing method, which allows 5-10% waste during production.

Our new phones are packaged by the manufacturers, so we can’t guarantee the exact materials they’re made from or how to recycle them.

This is just the beginning

Now we know we’re officially good, but we’re not perfect. There’s always more we can do. B Corp will test us every three years, so we have to keep getting better and better. And with our members’ help of course, we’ll be constantly working on our goodness.

Follow the impact we’ve made so far.
