How do I know if my phone is locked?

Last updated 06-APR-11

A phone is network locked if it doesn't accept with SIM cards from every mobile company. There's a variety of error messages you get when inserting an incompatible SIM such as "incompatible SIM", "enter network unlock code" or "enter subsidy PIN".

While there are many reasons why a mobile might not work when you introduce a SIM, here are some strong indicators that suggest a phone is locked: the phone, its box or software are heavily branded with the operator's name and logo.
